Down the Shore Part II
Yes I'm back with another spellbinding post about ME.
Well, my 1st 2 full summer's at the shore started out as a short trip and then parlayed into a full summer. The 1st summer was supposed to be one week for senior week (what a demented concept that is now that I look back at the whole thing). I paid my rent to 3 buddies to crash on their lovely black vinyl couch in a 2 bedroom joint above a garage. Oh did I mention that roughly 3 other guys paid the aforementioned 3 buddies for the same arrangement? That puts about 7 of us in an apartment with 3 beds and 1 pullout couch. Was it fun? Hell ya!
Well that 1 week bled into a summer of many of us rotating the couch. We all survived the pissed off neighbors, sand shark in the bathtub, crabs (from the ocean) races, fights over why Huck drove Jakes car into a ditch while fishing, 15 Old Mud pounders every night, the quadrabowl, running from Johnny Law regularly, numerous noise violations, sleeping in cars, and not being able to afford anything at Surfer's Supply.
And then it happened.
While most Senior Weekers were out trying to find other friendly senior weekers of the opposite sex, my group meets another group of equally misguided male youths from the other side of Philly. Do we fight and draw lines in the sand? No we decide the more the merrier. I'll refer to them as the UMC from here on in. It was a group of about 8 guys who moved as a well oiled machine with each having their role in the group. The brains, the right hand man, the muscle, the joker (of which they all were/are), the ladies man, the crazy one( again they all had a touch of this), the yes man, and a wild card player that changed daily.
We all survived that summer, setting the stage for the next summer. Both groups decided to rent houses near eachother and see what might happen after we all had a year of college under our belts. What could go wrong?
Tune in again to read about flying shopping carts, cop chases, angry neighborhood demonstrations, lost lunches, lost jobs, lost cars, lost houses, lost souls, and jail-cell volleyball.
